How Does a Vacuum Sealer Work?

A vacuum sealer works by removing air from a vacuum bag before permanently heat sealing the bag. Removing oxygen slows bacterial growth, mould formation, and oxidation, helping preserve freshness, extend shelf life, and protect products from moisture, dust, and contamination.

Although all vacuum sealing machines share the same goal, they operate using two different methods: external nozzle vacuum sealers and chamber vacuum sealers.

How Does an External Nozzle Vacuum Sealer Work?

An external nozzle vacuum sealer removes air through a vacuum nozzle that is inserted into the open end of the bag. This design makes it ideal for packaging large or oversized products that cannot fit inside a vacuum chamber.

Step 1 – Load the Product

Place the product inside a smooth vacuum bag and position the bag opening on the sealing area.

Step 2 – Insert the Vacuum Nozzle

The vacuum nozzle extends into the bag opening while the sealing jaws securely clamp the bag.

Step 3 – Vacuum Extraction

The vacuum pump removes air directly through the nozzle until the preset vacuum level is achieved.

Step 4 – Heat Sealing

The nozzle automatically retracts, and the sealing bar applies heat to create a strong airtight seal.

Step 5 – Finished Package

The sealed package is ready for storage or transportation with significantly reduced oxygen inside the bag.

How Does a Chamber Vacuum Sealer Work?

A chamber vacuum sealer works by placing the entire bag inside a sealed vacuum chamber. Instead of removing air directly from the bag, the machine removes air from the entire chamber before sealing the bag.

This method produces a stronger, more consistent vacuum and is especially suitable for food packaging.

Step 1 – Place the Product

Place the product inside a smooth vacuum bag and position the bag opening across the sealing bar inside the chamber.

Step 2 – Close the Chamber Lid

The chamber lid closes to create an airtight environment.

Step 3 – Remove Air from the Chamber

The vacuum pump removes air from the entire chamber, including the air inside the vacuum bag.

Step 4 – Heat Seal the Bag

Once the required vacuum level is reached, the sealing bar heat seals the bag while it remains under vacuum.

Step 5 – Return to Atmospheric Pressure

Air is slowly released back into the chamber. Because the bag is sealed, the outside air pressure compresses the bag tightly around the product, creating a secure vacuum package.
